I gave up the idea of happiness when the innocence was ripped painfully away at the end of my childhood.
That doesn't mean I cannot hope.
But any 'happiness' I find will be tainted with the cynical pessimist within, knowing that it has cost something, and will come to an end.

He has such potential. But is it enough?
A morbid, elusive excitement has my throat quivering with what I can only identify as joy.
Not one who has felt the pain of loss, no. But still such potential.
Do I ask?
No.
If I'm wrong, it'll fall apart. I'll be back at the start. How did I find him, anyway?
I bear my throat to this wolf, eager. Yet no words come. Am I a disappointment?
